Congrats to Arnold Edwards II

I just wanted to issue a congratulations to my buddy filmmaker Arnold Edwards II. His short film Cherry Blossoms and his feature film Curbside Confessions have both been accepted into the Bare Bones Film Festival taking place April 13-April 16 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. I am proud of Arnold, he's a good friend of mine and a heck of a filmmaker. I have seen both films and I enjoyed them. For more information, check out http://www.barebonesfilmfestivals.org/.

Adventures in Podcasting (Live From Memphis)

Since acting hasn't been filling my time so much lately, I've been branching out into podcasting. Wikipedia defines a podcast as “a series of audio or video digital media files which are distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers. Though the same content may also be made available by direct download or streaming, a podcast is distinguished from most other digital media formats by its ability to be syndicated, subscribed to, and downloaded automatically when new content is added."

Also, if you have the time, leave a comment on the site. My blog would sure look nicer with a few comments on it.

Actor Diaries: The Slump (Live From Memphis)

Eventually, every actor's career gets in a bit of a slump. You have that period where you're riding high, you feel untouchable, and everybody loves you. Sooner or later, for one reason or another, you have a dry spell, a span of time where you feel like you can't get arrested. Well, dear readers, lately I have felt like damaged goods in the acting world. I know that you're thinking this is total BS or a plea for attention, but it has been frustrating. You can try your hardest, you can network all you want, but the slump eventually happens. You can either fight through it or let it consume you. In basketball, the best way out of a shooting slump is to keep shooting. Well, the best way out of an acting slump is by trying to keep acting. Unlike sports, however, you don't always know when the next game will occur.

What About the Actors (A Geek and His Blog) (www.livefromememphis.com)

What About the Actors?

The latest issue of MovieMaker magazine ranked the 25 best cities for filmmakers. Memphis came in at #8, an improvement over last year when we had dropped from #7 to #10. Cities were ranked according to cost of living, average salary, unemployment rate, job growth, median home price, and crime rate. They also factored in the number of film schools, festivals, film-related vendors, movie venues, production scene, unique efforts, and financial incentives. Memphis is right behind Stamford, Connecticut (the location for Revolutionary Road and Rachel Getting Married), and ahead of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Public Enemies). Many people are pleased about our rankings and will proudly proclaim “Memphis is on the move!”, while I can only sit back and say, “I’m not so sure.”

DVDs, Podcasts, and Grizzlies: The Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday:

I got off work, then I went over Justin Vactor's house and watched the end of LOST, 30 Rock,The Office, and some parts of American Idol. Some of this was for podcasting, some of this was for pleasure.

Saturday:

I got off work, went to Comics and Collectibles for podcasting. We recorded the Entertainment Overload Podcast, which can be found at www.fusedfilm.com. We also recorded the Geekland Podcst, which can be found at www.geeklandpodcast.com. Later, we went to Corky's to eat. After that, I went to a Grizzlies game with my boy Mario Lindsey. The Grizzlies won, but I left at the beginning of the 4th quarter because I was feeling a little tired and I had a busy Sunday ahead of me.

Sunday:

I recorded an episode of Last Train to Memphis, a show on the Library Channel. It is Channel 18 on Comcast in the Memphis area. Ken Axmaker and Brad Alsobrook get a local actor to introduce a series of short films. I was glad to do it, even though it meant being up early in the morning to tape it. I will post the airtimed in this blog.
Next, I went over Justin Vactor's house for the HydraCooler podcast. This is a podcast about LOST. Everybody had all these theories, but I guess I'm more of a casual watcher of LOST.
After that, I took a nap and then I went to the movies and watched Taken. Liam Neeson played a retired government agent whose daughter is kidnapped. Neeson practically destroys Paris to get her back. It was awesome!! I will give it 3.5/5 stars.

DVDs, DVRs, and Podcasting: The Weekend Wrap-Up

Friday:

I got off work and went over my good buddy Justin Vactor's house to watch the episode of Lost from Thursday night. My DVR didn't tape it all. We also watched a little 30 Rock. Then, I went back to work to lock it up. Yay.

Saturday:

I got off work, and went over Vactor's house to podcast. Shoutout to Willie Gillis, Ben Songer, Kevin Coll, Chris Eaton, and Frank who was on the phone. We did the Fused Film Entertainment Overload Podcast (www.fusedfilm.com) and we also did the Geekland Podcast (www.geeklandpodcast.com). Afterwards, we all went out to eat at O'Charley's. Next, we went back to Vactor's house to watch the new CD Hulk Vs.. This DVD contains two short cartoons: Hulk Vs. Wolverine and Hulk Vs. Thor. They were pretty awesome. Ben had it on Blu-Ray, which is even more awesome!!
Good times, good times. I took Chris Eaton home, and we talked about spiritual stuff. I enjoy talking to Chris. He is steadfast in his beliefs, but he doesn't judge. I appreciate that.

Sunday:

I went to Comics and Collectibles, ran some errands, and then I went over my buddy Shomari's mother's house and watched the Super Bowl. Good game, nice commercials, but I'm kinda glad football season is over. Now, my schedules on Sundays will be clear. I may actually watch every DVD that I own. Or not. Oh, yeah, I am writing for different websites now. I will start posting links to my columns here. Be easy, readers!!!
